Pretty hard to introduce Anton Corbijn in just few lines: on his passport sure it’s written photographer and music video director, because it’s exactly what he did for over 30 years, portraying such music stars like Depeche Mode, REM, U2, Tom Waits, Bjork, Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana, just to tell some of his most known works. He also filmed the music video for Depeche Mode’s Enjoy the Silence and Nirvana’s Heart shaped box.
But we have to add more recent collaborations with younger rock band, like Arcade Fire, directed by Corbijn in their video for the new album’s Reflektor, and the alternative version of Viva la vida for Coldplay, just to say some among many others.
Not only music but also contemporary art: Anton Corbijn portrayed some of the major names of the artistic contemporary scene, from Damien Hirst or Jeff Koons, to the more refined Anselm Kiefer, Georg Baselitz, and also Gilbert and George, and the Icelandic rising star Ragnar Kjartansson, but the list is really long.
And last but not least, a filmmaker career with three pretty elegant, refined and touching movies: Control, about the life and death of Joy Division’s leader Ian Curtis, The American, filming George Clooney in Italy, and now in theatres, A most wanted man, starring an incredible -as usual- Philip Seymour Hoffman, in one of his latest apparition.
